Phil Ivey approaches final table at WSOP

Phil Ivey tore up the 2009 World Series of Poker, and even though he hasn’t gotten off to a blistering start in 2010 he has been sniffing around the final tables of a number of events. This is Ivey’s third cash in 2010 –he is also alive in the $10k NLHE Heads-Up Championship which has reached the round of 64.

Ivey’s best chance thus far is his current one; sitting in 9th place with 15 players remaining in the $2,500 Pot Limit Holdem/Omaha mix tournament. However, Ivey is facing one of the strongest lineups I’ve ever seen in a poker tournament: David Chiu, PLO specialist Rob Hollink, 2010 bracelet winner Joshua Tieman, the always dangerous Victor Ramdin, Kevin MacPhee and Burt Boutin.

Rumors have Ivey and Howard Lederer engaged in some heavy side action regarding Ivey’s WSOP results over the next two years, and while the exact terms of the bet are unknown it is believed to be over Ivey’s ability to win either one or two bracelets in 2010 and 2011 –reports have the bet somewhere in the $5 million range!

Ivey is currently tied with Men Nguyen and Billy Baxter for 6th place on the all-time bracelet leader-board with 7.
