Phil Laak headlines WPT Legends of Poker final table

wpt logoThe World Poker Tour is going head-to-head with the European Poker Tour as the WPT is hosting their Legends of Poker tournament at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles while the EPT is hosting their Barcelona event, the first event on the tour’s 10th season.

The EPT got the better of the confrontation, pulling in 1,234 players (just six players shy of the all-time EPT record) but the WPT Legends of Poker didn’t so too bad either, attracting a field of 716 players for the $3,500 Main Event. After four days of play the WPT Legends of Poker is now down to the official final table of six players, with a very familiar face in the poker world sitting in second place: Phil Laak.

For all his fame Phil Laak doesn’t have the most impressive tournament resume –it should be noted that Laak is considered a cash-game player. His largest career score is only $265k, and he has only a single major victory (a 2010 WSOP Europe bracelet win) to his credit. Laak does have a dozen career cashes of at least $100,000, but for the amount of time he has been on TV his actual results are a bit surprising.

Laak isn’t the only known poker pro at the Legends of Poker final table, as poker veteran Dan Heimiller will enter the final table as the short-stack, and WSOPC grinder Alex Masek (Masek has six WSOPC rings) in the middle of the pack.

Heimiller is a longtime tournament grinder with a 2002 WSOP bracelet on his resume. More recently Heimiller won a WSOPC ring last October. Masek has 13 tournament victories in the past four years (six of the WSOPC ring events) and his largest career score was a $106k payday for a second-place finish in the 2012 WSOPC Los Angeles Main Event.

Here is a look at the final table chip counts and seating assignments from the WPT website for the tournament:

* Seat 1: John Gordon – 2,935,000 (36 bb)

* Seat 2: Jordan Cristos – 4,265,000 (53 bb)

* Seat 3: Alexandru Masek – 2,890,000 (36 bb)

* Seat 4: Phil Laak – 4,730,000 (59 bb)

* Seat 5: Ryan Goindoo – 5,570,000 (69 bb)

* Seat 6: Dan Heimiller – 1,070,000 (13 bb)

And here is a look at what the remaining players are playing for:

* 1st place: $613,355

* 2nd place: $356,115

* 3rd place: $233,360

* 4th place: $156,790

* 5th place: $109,385

* 6th place: $85,080
