World-Series-of-Poker-July-2010-dealer-tables-300x200This past week the tournament poker tables were booming, with million-dollar prizes and Super-High-Roller tournaments going on in Florida, but the Seminole Hard Rock Poker open wasn’t the only place where big prizes were being handed out. We’ll try to get you caught up on the latest tournament results in this installment of This Week in Poker Tournaments.

You can read our reports on the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Main Event and the inaugural World Poker Tour (WPT) Alpha8 Super-High-Roller tournament at the following links:

APT Korea Main Event (166 entrants)

It’s not every day you can beat your hero in a poker tournament, but that is exactly what Lifeng Shen did at the APT Korea Main Event when he bested Johnny Chan heads-up for the title in the $1,000 buy-in championship event.

Here is a look at the final table results from the PokerAsiaPacific.com website:

1. Lifeng Shen (China) – $35,300

2. Johnny Chan (USA) – $23,800

3. Lulu Xi Yang (China) -$18,900

4. Jae Kyung Sim (Korea) – $15,900

5. Shaohuan Song (China) -$14,300

6. Daniel Lee (USA) – $5,770

WinStar World $5k “No Juice” Tournament (53 entrants)

It would seem that the WinStar Casino in Oklahoma made a good choice when they hitched their wagon (it’s Oklahoma after all, so I had to try to work in a wagon reference) to Maria Ho, selecting her to represent the casino. Ho returned the favor this week by winning the $5k “No Juice” tournament at the WinStar, pocketing just over $100k and a shiny new piece of jewelry.

Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event (1,635 entrants)

The Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event is just getting underway but we definitely needed to report on the attendance tally from the €1,100 Main Event tournament which is part of the EPT Barcelona tournament series. The 1,635 entries eclipsed the 1,626 from the UKIPT Nottingham tournament for the largest freeze-out tournament PokerStars has ever hosted in Europe.

Unfortunately, with such a massive tournament the tournament may have also set a record for the longest lines and wait times as the queue for the tournament stretched for hundreds of players.

Other Tournament News

Next week’s tournament report will be just as big as both the EPT Barcelona and the WPT Legends of Poker are hitting their Main Events, not to mention the countless other events that will be taking place across the globe.
