Poker News BoyThe best way to describe the past has been hectic. The news and stories floating around the poker world have been exciting, saddening, and wide-ranging to say the least. In this week’s look back at the poker week that was we’ll try to get you up to speed on all of the poker headlines you may have missed.

Maryland Live! Casino Opens 52 Table Poker Room

15,000 square feet of poker room just opened up at the Maryland Live! Casino, as the casino launched their 52-table poker room this week. The casino is one of the largest on the East Coast, and situated perfectly between Washington DC and Baltimore. Only Foxwoods in Connecticut rivals the new room in terms of size and space.

Phil Ivey’s Latest Prop Bet

Phil Ivey has another big prop bet going according to the poker superstar’s Twitter feed:

We still don’t know who the bet is with or what the dollar figure is, but one player who has a good history of prop-betting with Ivey was wondering if there was any chance of getting in on the action:

Dwan is referencing their well-known $1,000,000 prop bet where Ivey would become a vegetarian for a year. Shortly into the bet Ivey bought out for $150,000.

WPT’s Jerry Buss Charity Tournament Raises $7,825

LakeShowLife.com has the specifics on the recently held tournament at the WPT Legends of Poker tournament series, where a special tournament in honor of the late Jerry Buss raised $7,825 for the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.

57 players entered the event, and WPT Commentator Vince Van Patten finished in 3rd place, and delivered the following quote summing up what Jerry Buss meant to poker:

“[Dr. Buss] was truly world class. He could play [poker] with anyone. He made our WPT Invitational top two, almost won the event. That’s not a fluke. We played poker together. [He was] a great lover of life and a good person.”

Poker Legend Bobby Hoff Passed Away at the Age of 78

Bobby “The Wizard” Hoff passed away at the age of 78 this past week. Hoff is considered by many to be among the best No Limit Holdem cash-game players in the game’s history, but is likely best known for his near misses at the World Series of Poker. In 1979 Hoff lost to Hal Fowler (the first non-professional player to win the WSOP Main Event) booking his largest career tournament score; $108,000.
