Poker pro smashes record plays nearly 5 days

Phil Laak knew it was going to be tough to break the record for consecutive hours of poker played –the official record stood at over 72 hours, while the unofficial record stood at 78 hours—but the Unabomber, as Laak is known by, almost made it look easy!

Laak not only bested the 72 hour and 78 hour marks, he went well past his own goal of 80 hours, finally calling a stop to the marathon session after a whopping 115 hours of straight poker –that works out to 4 days 19 hours! Laak was afforded a 5 minute break every hour, with the option of rolling that time over –word is he banked enough 5 minute breaks to catch a 30 minute nap at one point: I have no idea how anyone was able to rouse him once his eyes closed.

Laak planned on donating half of his winnings to one of his favorite charities, Camp Sunshine, which runs summer camps for terminally ill children. Laak was apparently able to book a $6,700 win despite the lack of sleep, and through his Twitter account encouraged poker fans keeping up with the action to donate to Camp Sunshine. The live feed drew some 130,000 viewers throughout the marathon session, so its likely Camp Sunshine had a very good few days of fundraising.
