PokerStars making serious US online poker push
As the dust is starting to settle in their feud with the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Caesars Entertainment PokerStars is now refocusing its attention where it belongs; returning to the US market now that several states have passed online poker legislation. In New Jersey PokerStars is trying to seal the deal with state regulators and finalize their purchase of the Atlantic Club Casino in Atlantic City, and at the same time PokerStars is one of 14 companies that have offered to be the online poker provider in Delaware.
Even with PokerStars owners facing criminal indictments stemming from the Department of Justice’s investigation culminating with the shutdown of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker on Black Friday (April 15, 2011) PokerStars has somehow managed to position itself to compete in the burgeoning US market; a development that has to rankle online poker rooms like Party Poker, 888 Poker and other sites that left the US after UIGEA legislation passed in 2006. By leaving the market these sites felt they would be better positioned when online poker was legalized in the US, but as PokerStars is proving, this may not be the case.

PokerStars and the Atlantic Club
In a televised interview with Mike Schneider, the Managing Director of New Jersey Today, current Atlantic Club Casino COO Mike Frawley PokerStars’ parent company, The Rational Group, is poised to infuse the struggling property with some 440 million of capital over the next five years, with $20 million of that investment coming in the first year.
The cash infusion is sorely needed as Crowley admitted to Schneider that “Right now, we [The Atlantic Club] are not a profitable casino,” adding that, “With PokerStars and Internet gaming and the capital investment they’re prepared to make in the property, we expect to be more than profitable.”
Frawley also hinted at the prospect of The Rational Group investing in other parts of the state as well, perhaps hinting at local servers and other data storage systems.

PokerStars places bid in Delaware
Delaware online poker will be run through the state lottery, and a little over a month ago the State Lottery Commission started accepting proposals from online poker providers. Among the fourteen companies that have submitted proposals to run Delaware’s online poker operations are a few familiar names to current online poker players: PokerStars, 888, Amaya (OnGame), and IGT.
Delaware officials are hoping to have everything in place for a September 30, 2013 launch. Delaware is exploring the possibilities for inter-state online compacts, as the sparsely populated state simply doesn’t have a large enough player base to sustain a viable online poker economy.
