PokerStars officially supports online poker bill
It’s sort of a double-edged sword for both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars when it comes to legalizing online poker in the United States. On the one hand the sites would see an increase in traffic and the chance to move out of the legal “Gray-Zone” they now inhabit, but perhaps outweighing these plusses comes the realization of increased competition and declining revenue due to licensing fees and taxation.
Despite the seeming downside the two sites would face, in recent weeks both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars have come out in favor of online poker legislation.
General Counsel for PokerStars, Paul Telford had this to say regarding online poker legislation: “PokerStars maintains its strong support for H.R. 2267 and encourages the full House and ultimately the Senate to move quickly to secure passage during current Congressional term… PokerStars, a pioneer in operating online poker under stringent regulatory frameworks, looks forward to working with incumbent and new operators in promoting a safe and healthy online poker industry in the United States, as it currently does under similar licensing models in Italy and France.”
Of course this could all be posturing as it becomes apparent some type of online poker legislation will be passed in the not so distant future, and the two companies will have to apply for a license even though they are currently breaking US law by offering online poker games to US residents.
However, if you still decide to download PokerStars in the US, remember to use a PokerStars marketing code to get a deposit bonus when signing up.
