Rupert Elder takes down Aussie Millions Event #1

aussie millionsThe opening event of the 2013 Aussie Millions was wildly successful with a mammoth field of 1,338 players registering for the $1,000 No Limit Holdem tournament. Of the 1,338 registrations only 701 were unique players, as nearly half the registrations came via the repercharge format (the Australian word for reentry) that allowed players to enter a maximum of two-times on each of the three starting days.

The tournament shattered the $1 million guaranteed prize-pool, with the final tally coming in at $1,338,000, with a $250,000 prize set aside for the winner of the event. The Aussie Millions is surely crossing their fingers that the huge field is a sign of things to come for the rest of the tournament series, which will see a $100 Super-High-Roller and a $250,000 Super-Duper-High-Roller tournament, as well as the prestigious Aussie Millions Main Event.

Despite the huge field, there was some major talent featured at the final table including Rupert Elder, Brendon Rubie, and Martin Finger. Elder entered the final table as the commanding chip-leader, as well as a pretty good seat draw:

* Seat 1: Ashley Warner — 1,884,000

* Seat 2: Phillip Libeau — 1,408,000

* Seat 3: Brendon Rubie — 1,524,000

* Seat 4: Ted Nguyen — 681,000

* Seat 5: Rupert Elder — 3,412,000

* Seat 6: Dusan Stoevski — 916,000

* Seat 7: Nali Kaselias- — 68,000

* Seat 8: Fabian Craib — 616,000

* Seat 9: Marwan Nassif — 849,000

* Seat 10: Martin Finger — 1,450,000

The pay jumps at the final table were unbelievable, with 10th place walking away with a mere $13,000 while the winner received a quarter of a million dollars. Elder would hold on to win the tournament, defeating a very game Martin finger, one of the best young talents in the game, as well as one of the most controversial.

Elder had a miserable 2012 tournament campaign, booking only $63,000 in tournament earnings after pocketing $1.5 million the year before when he won the 2011 EPT San Remo and made a deep run in the 2011 WSOP Main Event, but his Aussie Millions win should have the youngster back on track as one of the better young players in game.

Here is a look at the final table payouts from the event:

1. Rupert Elder — $250,000

2. Martin Finger — $160,000

3. Fabian Craib — $120,000

4. Dusan Stoevski — $96,000

5. Brendon Rubie — $81,000

6. Ted Nguyen — $66,000

7. Marwin Nassif — $52,000

8. Phillip Libeau — $38,000

9. Ashley Warner — $25,000

10. Nali Kaselias — $13,500
