Sam Trickett wins Partouche Poker Tour title

Chalk up yet another $1 million score for Titan Poker pro Sam Trickett, as the young poker star increased his 2011 tournament earnings to a mind-boggling $4.5 million this past weekend by winning the 2011 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event.

After a mammoth field turned out for last year’s PPT Main Event (which was eventually won by Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst) the tournament title has become one of the most coveted in the poker world, not to mention that it takes place on the French Riviera in Cannes, likely helping attendance as well!

Even with a major controversy last year (2010 final table participant Ali Tekintamgac was disqualified prior to the final table for alleged cheating; using spotters on the floor to relay his opponent’s hole-card information) the 2011 Partouche Poker Tour produced a field of 579 players, shooting the total prize-pool well beyond the €4 million guarantee established prior to the tournament.

This time around it was Sam Trickett who would take home the top prize, adding to his already outstanding poker resume which includes a Party Poker Open VI title, three WSOP final tables including a runner-up finish, a 1st and 2nd place finish in the two Super-High-Roller events at the 2011 Aussie Millions, as well as a reputation for being one of the best cash-game players in the world.

Trickett now boasts career tournament earnings in excess of $6 million, nearly all of which coming in the past two years! Not too shabby considering that up until 2010 he was mainly a grinder in his native England, participating in mainly local tournaments that measured their buy-ins in hundreds of pounds –not the hundreds-of-thousands like the tournaments he now regularly takes part in!

The road to the PPT Championship wasn’t a cake-walk for Trickett, as he was pitted against WSOP bracelet winner Oleksii Kovalchuk, Roger Hairabedian, and Alexander Dovzhenko at the final table. Trickett even had to overcome a huge chip disadvantage during heads-up play, but in the end he was able to raise his hands in victory, capping off a 2011 tournament run that will be considered one of the best of all-time.

Here are the complete final table payouts from the 2011 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event:

1. Samuel Trickett — €1,000,000

2. Salman Behbehani — €600,000

3. Oleksii Kovalchuk — €379,760

4. Ilan Boujenah — €300,000

5. Roger Hairabedian — €230,000

6. Alexander Dovzhenko — €190,000

7. Mustapha Kanit — €160,000

8. Alexandre Coussy — €130,000

9. Mads Wissing — €100,000
