World-Series-of-Poker-July-2010-dealer-tables-300x200For poker enthusiasts April will be a very fun month. The current schedule that is playing out during the first week of April has plenty of action to follow with major tournament series taking place around the globe, from well-known venues like Foxwoods, Borgata and the Crown Casino, and in cities ranging from Barcelona, Spain to Cherokee, North Carolina.

WSOP Events around the globe

The biggest tournament series is the inaugural World Series of Poker APAC in Melbourne, Australia, but the WSOP is also hosting two other circuit series tournament series, one at Foxwoods in and the other at Harrah’s property in Cherokee, North Carolina. The Foxwoods event has been a huge success for the WSOPC and a much needed stop for Connecticut poker players who saw Foxwoods end their affiliation with the World Poker Tour (WPT) after 10 years.

The Foxwoods WSOPC Main Event is now underway, with the remaining players from the two Day 1 starting flights looking for a shot at the title, which will be awarded on the final day of the series, Monday, April 8, 2013. The Main Event drew a field of 615 players and will award a first-place prize of nearly $200,000.

Meanwhile, the WSOPC has already moved on to their next stop, a new venue for poker tours, North Carolina. The WSOPC Cherokee series has just started, but it already looks like it will be a popular stop as 872 players turned out for the opening event, a $300 No limit Holdem tournament.

WPT Barcelona

Even though most of the tournament attention is currently focused on Australia and the United States there is also a pretty big tournament taking place in Barcelona, Spain, as the WPT Barcelona Main Event is currently underway.

A total of 249 players registered for the Main Event, and after two days of action the field has been pared down to just 46 players. Most of the biggest names in poker are currently in Australia, but there are a couple of notables still in contention in Barcelona including Kevin Vandersmissen and Steve O’Dwyer.

Borgata Spring Poker Open

And finally, the Borgata Spring Poker Open series is also in full-swing as several preliminary tournaments are in the books as the series builds towards its always well-attended Main Event. One well-known player, Will Failla, managed to win one of the preliminary tournaments of the series, doing the honors in Event #4, a $400 NLHE tournament that saw the poker pro win $23,000 for his efforts.

The Borgata Spring Poker Open Main Event is scheduled to begin next week.
