Sigurd Eskeland denies Steve Sung 2nd bracelet
The $2,500 Mixed Event saw 453 players take to the felt, and after three days of play we were left with a back-and-forth heads-up battle it was Norwegian Sigurd Eskeland who will walk away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, and in the process denying California poker pro Steve Sung his second WSOP win.
The tournament saw a number of poker’s biggest names make deep runs in the tournament, Scott Seiver, Jared Jaffe, Matt Vengrin and Todd Brunson all finished in the top 10; along with Alexander Kravchenko, Dario Minieri, Kirk Morrison, John D’Agostino and Bill Chen who finished in the top 20.
Sung won the Stimulus special at the 2009 World Series of Poker, which netted the poker pro $770k, besting a field of over 6,000 players –a turnout that spurred-on the decision by the WSOP to add a number of $1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem tournaments to the 2010 schedule –A decision that hasn’t worked out as well as WSOP officials would have liked.
The win represents Eskeland’s third WSOP cash: Eskeland made a fairly deep-run in the 2008 WSOP Main Event before finally bowing out in 241st place, and also cashed in a NLHE event back in 2006.
