The controversial Partouche Poker Tour Main Event isn’t the only tournament series taking place, even if it is dominating the headlines for all the wrong reasons. So here is a look at some of the other tournament action going on around the world.

Final table of the UKIPT Newcastle set

The final table of the UKIPT Newcastle Main Event features nine players from the United Kingdom, including former November Niner Sam Holden, as well as a poker player with the unenviable name of Chris Ferguson (who will likely be inundated with negative comments should he win and tomorrow’s headlines read “Chris Ferguson wins UKIPT Main Event!”). Here is a look at the final table seating assignments and chip-counts from the tournament:

* Seat 1: Anthony Shields — 402,000

* Seat 2: Jack Sambrook — 2,413,000

Event #1 at the 2012 Borgata Poker Open $500 NLHE Deepstack attracts 3,700 entrants

With a $500 buy-in and $1,000,000 guarantee the opening event at the Borgata Poker Open was expected to see a huge field, but even the tournament organizers were unprepared for the over 3,700 entries they received. Many players were unable to even register for the tournament, and the entire registration process was filled with confusion and chaos according to players on hand.

In the end, a total of 3,705 entries were recorded (the event had two starting days with re-entries allowed on Day 1b) for a prize-pool of over $1.7 million. Here is a look at the final table payouts from the tournament:

1. Benedetto Bianco – $309,196

2. Dan Wach – $200,793

3. Walter English – $131,492

4. Gary Ackerman – $111,946

5. Bryan Polito – $93,289

6. Wendy Freedman – $75,519

7. Robert Klein – $58,693

8. Hobart Adkins – $42,646

9. Tevy Wellins – $31,096

WPT Grand Prix de Paris underway

The World Poker Tour WPT Grand Prix de Paris is getting started today at the famed Aviation Club in Paris, France, and the tournament organizers are hoping for a strong turnout, as many pros are already in Paris for the recently concluded Partouche Poker Tour Main Event, and will then be awaiting the WSOP Europe tournament series.

Past winners of the WPT Grand Prix de Paris include Season X winner Matt Waxman, Season IX winner Theo Jorgensen, Season IV winner Roland de Wolfe, Season III winner Surindar Sunar, and Season II winner David Benyamine. In 2011 Matt Waxman defeated a field of 312 players to win the $729k first-place prize.
