Weekly Brief: WSOP Main Event and UIGEA waves

Posted by Steve Ruddock on Nov 14, 2010 Posted in Poker News | No Comments »

poker news from the last weekObviously the driving force behind this week’s poker headlines was the 2010 World Series of Poker final table, which saw Jonathan Duhamel capture the 2010 WSOP and take the title to Canada for the first time. While he was able to better the 7th place finishes of Phil Ivey and Chino Rheem. Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi ended up finishing in 5th place despite being the chip-leader for a good deal of the final table.

Also during the WSOP festivities Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington were inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame and following his win Jonathan Duhamel donated $100,000 to a children’s charity in his hometown of Montreal, making good on his claim of wanting to be a poker ambassador.

We also saw movement on the legislative front; both good and bad. First the bad, Full Tilt has temporarily stopped check payments due to issues with their third-party processor. And now the good; New Jersey is seriously considering legalizing intra-state online gaming. Both of these events show both the need for online gaming legislation and also how the current climate favors legislation. So let’s all root for New Jersey, so that poker players don’t have to fret over their checks arriving promptly.
