The schedule for this year’s World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas has just been unveiled by the organisers with the full list of events now announced.

The 2016 series of the WSOP will be taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will host 69 events from 31st May to 18th July. The schedule will have several changes this year which will affect almost all of the poker events. The WSOP has been running for 46 years and is a firm favourite with poker fans across the globe.

One big change that has been made to the 2016 tournament is introducing earlier start times for most events. The poker games will begin one hour earlier than in previous years at the WSOP, with 11am and 3pm being the new agreed upon start times events. The amount of starting chips allocated for players has also been increased in many events, with $10,000 buy-in events including the Main Event now featuring 50,000 in starting chips, two thirds of an increase from the 2015 WSOP tournament.

The WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel has announced that they “anticipate the 2016 WSOP to be the most rewarding yet. Our schedule this year really runs the gamut for all levels of poker enthusiasts, so we hope you will peruse the events and make your plans to join us this summer at the Rio.”

As well as the WSOP event time and chip changes, there are eight new events being introduced as part of the new schedule. These new events include a $1,000 ‘Top Up’ turbo no-limit hold’em, a $2,000 no-limit hold’em event, a $565 pot-limit Omaha with re-entry, a $1,500 mixed pot-limit Omaha and no-limit hold’em, the $888,888 1st place guaranteed no-limit hold’em and the $1,000 tag-team no-limit hold’em event (which will see 2 to 4 person teams buy-in together and be able to swap out players during the tournament).

The popular charity event, the $1 million Big One For One Drop, is currently not part of the 2016 WSOP summer schedule, so arrangements for that are yet to be made. “More details on the Big One for One Drop will be announced soon”, according to a statement released by the WSOP organisers.

The 2016 WSOP schedule appears to reaffirm the tournament’s enduring commitment to being the centre of large-scale high stakes mixed-game poker tournaments in the world. This year’s winner will hope to emulate the success of last year’s Main Event champion, Joe McKeehen who walked away with $7,683,346 in prize money.
