Poker Player of the Year Races August update

Posted by Steve Ruddock on Aug 18, 2012 Posted in Poker News | No Comments »

With three outlets now handing out Player of the Year awards, tournament poker players have even more opportunities to promote themselves within the poker world, and should a player manage to capture two, or possibly all three Player of the Year awards, they would surely become one of the most marketable players in the game. And this very well could occur this year!

The early leader for the POY trophies was Jonathan Duhamel, who had a blistering start to his 2012 tournament campaign, but hasn’t been able to continue his incredible January run and is starting to slip down the leader-boards. Taking his place initially was Dan Smith, who has been one of the most consistent performers over the past year. But even Smith has had to make way for the surging Marvin Rettenmaier, coming off a solid WSOP performance as well as back-to-back WPT wins at the $25k WPT Championship and the recently concluded WPT Merit Cyprus Classic.

The question is, can Rettenmaier maintain his lead, on the GPI and BLUFF leader-boards and jump two spots in the Cardplayer rankings, or will another player close the gap?

Here is a look at the Player of the Year races from the three major outlets, Cardplayer Magazine, Bluff Magazine, and the Global Poker Index.
