santiago canizares at 888 poker888 Poker has been grabbing its fair share of the headlines lately, and rightly so as earlier this week Darren Woods won his first ever bracelet at this years WSOP. Well they are at again as today they have announced the signing of Santiago Canizares, a former professional footballer who was a goalkeeper for Valencia.

Canizares will be joining another famous sportsman at 888, cricketer Shane Warne, and he is not the first footballer to try his hand at poker either. He follows in the footsteps of Tony Cascarino, Teddy Sheringham and Francesco Totti to name but a few.

The senior vice president at 888Poker is Itai Pazner and he had the following to say on the arrival of Canizares. “The partnership agreement with Santiago Canizares will bolster the 888 brand presence in Spain and beyond, and we are delighted to have a sportsman of his calibre on board. We are fully confident that our exclusive partnership agreement with Canizares will be beneficial to our brands; 888 casino, 888 poker and 888 sport.”

Canizares played over 500 times in the Spanish Premier League, La Liga, and he was also capped 45 times by Spain. He may well have a stack full of experience and knowledge from his time playing football, but I wonder what he is like at playing No-Limit Hold’Em!
