2013 Aussie Millions opens with a record-setter

aussie millionsThe $1,100 No Limit Holdem tournament that kicked off the 2012 Aussie Million tournament series at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia was one for the record-books. Over the course of the three starting days the tournament attracted a total of 1,338, players, with 323 entering on Day 1a, 338 players entered on Day 1b, and a massive turnout of 677 players took part in the event on Day 1c.

This is the largest field ever for an Aussie Million tournament, helped by the reentry format in place for this event (which allowed players who were knocked out of the tournament in an earlier Day 1 flight to reenter the event the following day, and players to fire two bullets on each day) as nearly half of the total entries were reentries, with 708 unique players entering the tournament. Because of the format it’s possible that some players paid $6,600 in entry fees for the $1,100 tournament.

Of course, the registration lines were bolstered by the $1 million guarantee the event sported, a number that was surpassed before Day 1c even began, and with lines at the registration desk encircling the entire poker room it was clear from the outset that this tournament had a chance at being a record-setter, and did set the record for the largest $1k tournament in Australia history (this is still unconfirmed at this point). The total prize-pool came in at $1,338,000.

By the end of the final Day 1 flight a mere 144 players had survived the blitz of the Day 1 flights, which means Day 2 will see the money bubble burst very early on –although as mentioned above, some players will need to make the final three tables just to get their total buy-in back if they fired two bullets on all three days! Here are the payouts for Event #1 at the 2013 Aussie Million beginning with the Top 10 payouts:
