7 heading to Day 2 of Aussie Millions $100k Challenge

aussie millionsThe field size may not rival that of the recent $100k Super-High-Roller tournament that took place at the PokerStars PCA, but with 22 entries the $100k Challenge at the 2013 Aussie Million did produce a $1 million first-place prize. Seven of the original 22 entrants will be back in action on Day 2, but only four of those players will be leaving with anything to show for their efforts. Here is a look at the payouts the Top four finishers will receive:

* 1st Place: $1,000,000

* 2nd Place: $610,000

* 3rd Place: $320,000

* 4th Place: $237,000

The attendance is right about where it usually lands for this tournament, considering in the six year history of the event it has only topped 25 players a single time (in 2011 when 38 players entered) and this year’s tally is exactly the same as last year’s final numbers.

Leading the way into tomorrow’s final table will be Masa Kagawa, a Super-High-Roller regular, looking for his big live tournament score. Kagawa holds a slim chip-lead over two other Super-High-Roller regulars in Igor Kurganov and Dan Shak, while the trail pack of Tobias Reinkemeier, Vanessa Selbst, Andrew Robl, and Nicklas Heinecker will have a lot of work to do in they want to contend for the title on Monday. The four players bringing up the rear of the leader-board have between 10 and 20 Big Blinds each, while the chip leaders are all sitting on stacks of at least 50 Big Blinds.

Here is a look at the chip counts of the seven remaining participants in the $100k Challenge:

* Masa Kagawa — 695,000

* Igor Kurganov — 563,000

* Dan Shak — 435,000

* Tobias Reinkemeier — 160,000

* Vanessa Selbst — 136,000

* Andrew Robl — 129,000

* Niklas Heinecker — 85,000

Vanessa Selbst is coming off a huge win in the $25k High-Roller tournament at the PCA and skipped the NBC National Heads-Up Championship to play in this tournament –which so far seems like a pretty wise decision.

Dan Shak is also coming off a recent final table in a high-roller tournament, having made the final table of the $100k Super-High-Roller at the PCA, and now he is looking to improve upon his 7th place showing here; hopefully getting a Top 4 so he can make the money! Shak won this event back in 2010.

While the final table for this event plays out on Tuesday, the Main Event at the Aussie Millions will see the second starting flight take their seats for Day 1b.
