Tournament Report: 2013 WSOP, HPT Palms and more

The final surge for the 2012 Player of the Year races is underway as the 2012 poker tournament schedule starts to wind down, and over the past week or so there have been a number of tournaments taking place all over the globe. In addition to the WPT events in Jacksonville and Copenhagen that we detailed yesterday there was also action in Las Vegas as the Heartland Poker Tour was in town; the APPT made a stop in Macau recently, and the Masters Classic of Poker was taking place in Holland. In addition to all of this the WSOP released the dates for the 2013 WSOP tournament series.

James Carroll victorious at the HPT Nevada Main Event

This past week the HPT rolled into Las Vegas and hosted their latest $1,500 buy-in championship at the Palms Casino. With a slew of local pros in the field it was poker pro James Carroll who came out on top, pocketing just over $100,000 for the win.

Ole Schemion wins the Masters Classic of Poker

Over in Holland 212 players registered for the €5,000 Main Event at the Masters Classic of Poker, including a number of well known poker pros; some of whom found their way to the final table. Perhaps the biggest name at the final table was 2012 Partouche Poker Tour champion Ole Schemion who picked-up his second major title of 2012 by winning the Masters Classic. Schemion was joined at the final table by the likes of Pieter de Korver and Bryn Kenney, the former finishing in second place.

While there weren’t any German pros at the final table we did find a German PokerStars bonus for you.

APPT Macau draws big names and big fields

The APPT Main Event in Macau saw a huge field (further proof of the booming poker market in Macau) and one of the strangest deals you’ll see at a poker table as Xing Zhou and Ying Kit Chan decided on a straight-up chop of the over $900k in first and second place prize-money.

2013 WSOP dates announced

With last week’s announcement, the 44th Annual World Series of Poker will once again take place at the Rio All Suites in Las Vegas, Nevada in the summer of 2013 is a definite, scheduled to take place from May 29, 2013 through July 16, 2013 (with the final table of the WSOP Main Event once again going on a prolonged hiatus at this point).

According to the website, the Main Event will run from July 7-16, and will once again feature three starting days; on July 7, 8, and 9. In all the WSOP plans on around 60 events for the tournament series, but the complete schedule of events will not be known for quite some time.
