One of poker’s rising stars over the last year has been UK poker pro Sam Trickett –part of a sizable contingent of top young talent that has been coming out of the UK recently—and he has already made a big splash in 2011 by capturing the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge tournament, and pocketing an impressive $1,525,000 in the process.

Trickett was able to maintain his chip-lead throughout the final table and outlast some of the top poker players in the world on his way to the title. Falling by the wayside over the two-day event were high-profile names like Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates, Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius, Joe Hachem, Justin ‘boosted J’ Smith, Howard Lederer, Tony G, John Juanda, Trickett’s friend and 2010 WSOPE winner James Bord, Sorel Mizzi, Peter Jetten, Erik Seidel, and Chris Ferguson.

As I mentioned, Trickett is part of a new wave of top poker players to come out of the UK in recent years, where he joins players like Jake Cody, Toby Lewis and James Bord, as the next generation of UK poker talent. Overall, Trickett has now won over $3.2 million at poker tournaments around the globe for his career.

Here is a look at the final 6 players, and the amount they cashed for in the tournament:

1.    Sam Trickett – $1,525,000
2.    Tony Bloom – $975,000
3.    Erik Seidel – $625,000
4.    David Steicke – $325,000
5.    James Obst – $200,000
6.    David Benyamine – $150,000
