The World Series of Poker isn’t the only thing going on in the poker world, and there is definitely plenty of things happening away from Las Vegas at both at the online poker tables and at the live poker tables.

A total of 53 online gaming providers were issued licenses for a variety of different games ranging from poker, to sports-betting, to bingo.

Celina Lin wins second Macau Cup

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin picked-up her second career Macau Cup title two weeks ago, and what would normally have been a pretty big story has been overshadowed by the WSOP. So let’s give Celina her props on a well-deserved victory, earning her second Red Dragon trophy (by far the coolest trophy in poker, and possibly in sports.

Microgaming Suspends 5050 Poker

We have our latest online poker fiasco in the form of 5050 Poker. The Microgaming room has been suspended by the network over a failure to live up to its agreement with the network –which is trying to move away from coveting high-volume, winning, rakeback players. The problems began when Microgaming issued the following statement:

“The Microgaming Poker Network regrets that it has suspended all game play with immediate effect on the poker room of 5050Poker Ltd, for a material breach of its contract.

“The directors of 5050Poker Ltd have been aware of the breach since 14 June 2012. Game play will be reinstated once the breach is satisfactorily rectified.”

5050 Poker countered with the following statement:

“Result is that our players are limited to being able to play at most two poker tables against the previous 10 tables. This rule affects primarily only a few gaming operators in the poker network and the company believes that the measure is yet another example of several discriminatory measures taken by Microgaming in order to get rid of unwanted gaming operators (whose players mostly belong to the category winning players).

“We know that most of our players tend to play more than two tables, which means that the subsidiary’s sales and earnings will be adversely affected. Magnitude of the consequences are difficult to estimate.

“We believe that this act of Microgaming is a clear illegality of discrimination. The subsidiary exploring ways to take action to curb the rule change.”

However, the story didn’t end there (with the Microgaming upset over the number of winning players at 5050 Poker) as later in the week we learned that 5050 Poker had stopped all payments to their players, blaming the inability to stay liquid on their parent network:

“Due to network Microgaming unethical conduct, the players’ confidence in 5050Poker damaged with major negative economic consequences.

“The ability to operate in a businesslike way, in the short term are severely restricted. ??

“Above put together mean that the company’s assets and liabilities are likely to be in such an imbalance that the Board has decided to delay further payments and to establish a balance sheet for liquidation purposes. ??

“The Board further decided to investigate the possibility of making financial demands on Microgaming corresponding to the damage caused to the 5050 Poker.”
