Poker pro Cajelais leads WPT Bay 101 final table

When the six remaining competitors for the 2012 World Poker Tour (WPT) Bay 101 Shooting Stars Main Event hit the tables today one thing is for certain; there will be a first-time WPT Champion crowned. The final table is being led by Canadian poker pro and former Mixed Martial Arts fighter Erik Cajelais who will take a commanding chip-lead into the final table, holding 3.6 million of the chips in play.

Only two players are even within striking distance of Cajelais, Moon Kim (2.1 million) and Ubaid Habib (2.2 million), the remaining three players, Joe Elpayaa, Joe Serock, and Andrew Badecker all have about a million chips between them. Fortunately the blinds are still reasonable, giving every player at the table at least 45 Big Blinds to work with at the start of the day.

Day 3 of the tournament saw plenty of big names fall, including Jonathan Duhamel, who finished the tournament in 13th place, as well as former WPT Champions JC Tran (16th place) and Taylor Von Kriegenbergh (19th place).

Cajelais is well-known on the professional tournament circuit, and even though he has had enough success to secure a two-year Epic Poker League card (not worth very much anymore), including a WSOP bracelet and runner-up finishes in a WPT, EPT and WSOP tournament, he hasn’t been able to produce that signature win up to this point in his career. Perhaps the Bay 101 will be the tournament that propels Cajelais into the upper tier of tournament poker players?

Standing in his way will be poker pro Joe Serock, who is looking for his first major tournament victory after finishing as the bridesmaid in two different WSOP events. Cajelais and the rest of the final table will also have to deal with rising star Andrew Badecker. Badecker won a WSOP bracelet in 2011, and later in the year captured the Borgata Fall Poker open Main Event Championship. The former online poker pro (playing under the name “pez101”) Badecker thought his career might be over after Black Friday, but was able to stick with poker thanks to his impressive 2011 tournament run.

Here is a look at the final table seating assignments and chip counts for the Bay 101 Main Event:

* Seat 1: Joe Elpayaa – 908,000 (45 BBs)

* Seat 2: Joe Serock – 952,000 (48 BBs)

* Seat 3: Moon Kim – 2,098,000 (105 BBs)

* Seat 4: Ubaid Habib – 2,274,000 (114 BBs)

* Seat 5: Erik Cajelais – 3,640,000 (182 BBs)

* Seat 6: Andrew Badecker – 1,040,000 (52 BBs)

When play resumes at 4 PM local time, the players will be in Level 23 with 10,000/20,000 blinds and a 3,000 chip ante.
