WPT Borgata Poker Open down to 6 players
When officials announced the buy-in for the WPT Borgata Main Event had been reduced from $10,000 to $3,500 they knew attendance would be up. What they weren’t banking on was seeing a field of 1,018 players vying for the coveted WPT title.
With 1,012 of those players now eliminated the Borgata Poker Open is down to the final six players for the televised final table. The final table contains new faces in the poker world –which tends to be the case in these mega-field tournaments:
• Olivier Busquet – 10,350,000
• Yanick Brodeur – 5,780,000
• Ivan Mamuzic – 5,655,000
• Jeremy Brown – 5,480,000
• Keith Crowder – 2,750,000
• Kenny Nguyen – 600,000
Another reason for the lack of a big name finalist is the WSOPE kicking off concurrently in London. So, one of these virtually unknown players will walk away with the $925k first prize.
Chip-leader Busquet has an almost 2 to 1 advantage over his nearest competitor. However, as it stands there is a three-way deadlock for 2nd place; with Brodeur, Mamuzic, and Brown all within a few hundred thousand chips of each other.
Play resumes at 7PM EDT Thursday, September 24th 2009.
