2013 WSOP Countdown: The Champions List

2013_schedule_carouselEvery year in Las Vegas there is a single person who can forever stamp their name in the annals of poker history: and that person is the player who wins the World Series of Poker Main Event Championship. Winning the WSOP Main Event is far different than winning any other tournament in poker; it is THE poker tournament; always has been and always will be.

For some a WSOP Main Event victory is the launching pad to a Hall of Fame career; for others the WSOP Main Event bracelet is the icing on the cake of an already great poker career; and still for others the title of WSOP Main Event Champion is simply a once-in-a-lifetime fluke that they will never be able to duplicate even on a smaller scale.

So this year we will have to wait and see whether we end up with a fresh-faced Phil Hellmuth-type; a grizzled veteran like Johnny Moss; or a complete unknown like Hal Fowler or Jerry Yang.

Here is a look at the list of men (yes, so far they are all men) who have captured poker’s greatest prize.
