2013 WSOP schedule Part 1: One Drop Tournaments

2013_schedule_carouselThis week Caesar’s Interactive Entertainment released the full schedule for the 2013 World Series of Poker Tournament Series that will kick-off with the $500 Casino Employees Tournament on May 29th, 2013 and run through July 16th, 2013 when the WSOP Main Event final table is determined. As has been the case for the past five years, the WSOP will then go on a months-long hiatus, returning to the Rio in November to crown the 2013 WSOP Champion. A total of 62 WSOP Gold Bracelets will be awarded during the 48 day tournament series.

Perhaps the most exciting news on the WSOP schedule was the inclusion of not one but two One Drop events. After last year’s Big One for One Drop the WSOP announced that the $1,000,000 tournament would be returning in 2014, and a Little One for One Drop (an $1,111 rebuy event) would be held in 2013, but Thursday we learned there was a second One Drop event on the schedule, a massive $111,111 High-Roller tournament that will be a full bracelet event.

The Little One for One Drop

The Little One for One Drop, Event #47 on the 2013 WSOP schedule, will see the return of rebuys to the WSOP for the first time since 2008. The event will feature unlimited rebuys through the first four levels of both starting days (but a player must bust before rebuying), with $111 from every buy-in and rebuy going to the One Drop charity.

You can expect the Little One for One Drop to be the best-attended $1,000 tournament in WSOP history, and I expect the final tally on buy-ins and rebuys to be in the 8,000 range.

The $111,111 One Drop High-Roller Tournament

The wild-card tournament this year will most certainly be Event #47, the $111,111 One Drop High-Roller. The tournament will likely be the largest $100k buy-in event in poker history, and unlike other One Drop tournaments the 3% House Fee players pay will be the automatic donation –of course donated winnings will be more than welcome.

With less money taken off the top it’s likely this tournament will draw virtually every pro capable of finding backing, considering a number of extremely wealthy “amateur” players are likely to be in the field. This tournament will not have a player cap, either, which means it could grow to as many as 100, or even 200 entries –my over-under line is set at 133.
