“The Magician” has done it again, as Antonio Esfandiari picked-up his third career WSOP bracelet by winning the €1,100 NLHE Event at the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe. Esfandiari’s win comes in the wake of his historic win in the $1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop tournament at the 2012 WSOP in Las Vegas.

While the €126,207 in prize-money is a pittance compared to the over $18 million Antonio received for winning the One Drop tournament, now the Magician is chasing history, as he tries to cement his place in the annals of poker. With his monster 2012 Esfandiari has gone from another very good player to a potential Hall of Famer if he can continue to add to his trophy case. Esfandiari has three WSOP titles, including the Big One for One Drop, and two World Poker Tour titles, one in 2004 and his second in 2010.

As for this event, the €1,100 NLHE tournament (Event #2 at the WSOPE) attracted a field of 626 players, including some of the biggest names in poker like Phil Hellmuth, Sam Trickett, and Antonio. The tournament had two Day 1 starting flights, and heading into Tuesday’s action just 15 players remained in contention for the title. Joining Antonio on Day 3 were McLean Karr and Casey Kastle –Karr would fare much better than Kastle, making the final table and finishing in 6th place.

Antonio came into Day 3 in second place on the leader-board, and was able to avoid tough spots all day long while he continued to chip-up and pressure for the WSOP bracelet.

As the heads-up battle between Antonio and Remi Bollengier got underway a big hand developed fairly early on in the match. Esfandiari made a terrific call with just a pair of Tens on a T-5-J-4-Q board with three hearts. The call gave Antonio a commanding lead in the match and he managed to put the Frenchmen away just a short time later.

Here is a look at the final table payouts from the tournament:

1. Antonio Esfandiari — €126,207

2. Remi Bollengier — €78,059

3. Salvatore Bonavena — €57,079

4. Antonin Teisserie — €42,356

5. Valentin Detoc — €31,869

6. McLean Karr — €24,309

7. Ashly Butler — €18,798

8. Jamel Haddad — €14,736

9. Florian Ciuro — €11,707

Attendance was down from last year’s event which saw 771 players, but this was still the second largest €1,100 event in WSOPE history, although from 2008-2010 the tournament was played in London and used British Sterling and not Euros for the buy-in.
