Barny Boatman joins the ranks of WSOP bracelet winners

wsop bracelet2UK poker legend Barny Boatman took his name off of the dubious “Best/Surprising/Deserving Poker Player without a Bracelet” list this weekend with a win in Event #49, one of the 11 $1,500 NLHE tournaments at the WSOP in 2013. Boatman is one of the founding members of the Hendon Mob, along with his brother Ross Boatman, Ram Vaswani, and Joe Beevers. Barny now joins Ram as the only bracelet winners of the group, which might light a fire under Ross to keep up with his brother.

The Hendon Mob was originally just four poker players coming up with a witty name before the Poker Boom really kicked-off. However, since the Poker Boom the Hendon Mob has become virtually synonymous with UK poker, and has spawned one of the most popular online poker websites (with a tournament database that every person in poker media and poker players frequent almost daily) www.thehendonmob.com.

Over the years the Hendon Mob has grown into one of the biggest brands in poker; not too bad for what started out as just a catchy name for four like-minded poker players.

Barny has tournament results dating back to the 1990’s –evidence of his longevity in the game—but the $546,080 payday that accompanied his first WSOP bracelet win was also the largest of Barny’s career (according to thehendonmob.com database of course) besting a 2011 4th place showing at the EPT San Remo Main Event where Barny earned just over $310,000.

Here is a look at the payouts from Event #49: $1,500 No Limit Holdem tournament:

1. Barny Boatman — $546,080

2. Brian O’Donoghue — $338,745

3. Van Tran — $239,339

4. Taras Kripps — $172,087

5. Aditya Prasetyo — $125,372

6. Robin Ylitalo — $92,550

7. Paul Dasilva — $69,192

8. Noah Sandler — $52,387

The 2013 WSOP has been dominated by Canadian players, but over the past couple weeks the UK has really made its presence felt, with a number of runner-up finishes and final tables to go along with the bracelet win by Boatman.
