WSOPC National Championship freerollNot everyone is aware of this, but the first bracelet of the 2013 World Series of Poker tournament series was awarded last night… In New Orleans! For the third straight year the World Series of Poker Circuit Series (WSOPC) National Championship was a full-fledged bracelet event and this time around it was Jonathan Hilton who would capture the top –prize and join Sam Barnhart and Ryan Eriquezzo as WSOPC National Champions.

Hilton got his invitation as an at-large berth, having finished the 2012/2013 WSOPC season among the Top 62 players on the WSOPC leader-board, and has now parlayed that free entry into a $355,599 payday, not to mention the first WSOP bracelet of his career. Hilton’s path to the title was far from a cakewalk, considering the final table consisted of 2012 October Niner Jeremy Ausmus, two-time WSOP bracelet winner John Brock Parker, former WOT champion Joe Tehan, and Hilton’s heads-up opponent Max Steinberg a former WSOP bracelet winner himself.

Here is a look at the final table payouts from the tournament:

* 1st place: Jonathan Hilton — $355,599

* 2nd place: Max Steinberg — $219,799

* 3rd place: Robert Panitch — $156,743

* 4th place: Brock Parker — $114,008

* 5th place: Tim Bowman — $84,544

* 6th place: Joe Tehan — $63,894

* 7th place: Nicolas Vaca-Rondon — $49,187

* 8th place: Jeremy Ausmus — $38,570

The World Series of Poker Circuit Series National Championship is an invitational event that begins as a $1,000,000 freeroll for 100 players from the WSOPC season. Receiving free entries into the tournament are the 20 WSOPC Champions over the course of the season, 18 Casino Champions (Player of the Series), and rounding out the 100 player field are the top 62 players on the WSOPC points leader-board. In addition to the 100 players who are free-rolling the tournament, the WSOPC also invites the Top 100 players on the WSOP leader-board to compete, however, these players must pay a $10,000 entry-fee to participate.

This year all 100 qualifiers showed up for the WSOPC National Championship in New Orleans, and by the time registration closed a further 26 players from the WSOP leader-board had bought into the tournament, including final table participants Brock Parker, Jeremy Ausmus, Joe Tehan, and Max Steinberg.

With the location of the National Championship moved from Las Vegas to New Orleans, and running concurrently with the PokerStars SCOOP and the WPT Championship the number of players who bought into the WSOPC National Championship dropped from 57 in 2012, to just 26 this year –last year’s tournament also had the good fortune of being played right before the WSOP Main Event when virtually every poker player in the world is in Las Vegas.
