Poker Brat Phil Hellmuth seeks bracelet #12

Just days after Phil Ivey closed the gap on Phil Hellmuth by winning his 8th World Series of Poker bracelet; the Poker Brat is looking to once again push the margin back up to four. Hellmuth finds himself in 4th place amongst the remaining 14 players in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better tournament that will conclude later today at the Rio.

Should Hellmuth capture bracelet #12 in the PLO8 tournament it would mark his first WSOP in a game other than No Limit Holdem –although Phil has had some near brushes in the past in non-NLHE games—and would put a little bit of breathing room between himself and Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan who trail Phil by just a single bracelet. The record is something that people identify with Hellmuth, and the number one argument his fans make to his detractors; it really would be a crushing blow to Phil to lose that record.

Despite Brunson and Chan’s proximity to Hellmuth his greatest threat to his bracelet record is likely to come from Phil Ivey, since Brunson and Chan play very limited WSOP schedules –Doyle has entered only 6 tournaments at the 2010 WSOP up to this point– and Ivey, with millions in bracelet prop bets, enters virtually every event –and will likely continue to do so over the next few years.
