A total of 842 players have punched their tickets into Day 3 of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event after the Day 1 and Day 1b survivors returned to the Rio on Tuesday to take part in their respective Day 2 flights: Day 2a and Day 2b. Leading the way is Frenchwomen Gaelle Baumann, the only player in the field to top the 500k chip-mark. Other notables in the Top 10 include Shaun Deeb (currently in 3rd place with 460,900 chips), Taylor Paur, (currently in 6th place with 391,600 chips), and Vanessa Selbst (currently in 10th place with 350,400 chips).

The survivors from both Day 2a and Day 2b will now await the survivors from the considerably larger (as large as Day 1a and Day 1b combined) field from Day 1c, who will play their Day 2 on Wednesday at the Rio. Then, on Thursday the entire field will be combined for the first time as some 1,500 players will return for Day 3 of the 2012 WSOP Main Event.

A total of 2,044 players were in action at the Rio yesterday, and with just 842 players surviving the day the average chip-count is just over 113,000.

Five former Champions remain in the hunt

Ladies still thriving

Not only is Gaelle Baumann at the top of the leader-board, with Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst in 10th place, but several other top female players will also be moving on to Day 3 of the WSOP Main Event: Katie Dozier, Maria Ho, Jackie Glazier, Leo Margets, Karina Jett, Liv Boeree, and Patricia Murphy all ended the day with over 100,000 chips.

Wild hand to end the day

Kevin Davis (#4 in chips) was able to capitalize on a very questionable play by Terry Grimes on the last hand of the night. I’ll let PokerNews live reporting team take it from here:

In the last hand at their table, action folded around to Terry Grimes on the button. He looked down at his cards and said, “Let’s get this over with,” before moving all in for well over 200,000. The small blind got out of the way, but Kevin Davis called off for nearly 200,000 from the big blind.

Grimes had A/K while Davis woke-up with Pocket Aces in the big blind.
