wsop 2013After 6 full days of action the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event will now combine the three separate flights of players for the first time, as 1,753 of the original 6,352 players return to the Rio on Thursday with visions of making the World Series of Poker Main Event final table.

The 6,352 entrants is the lowest turnout at the WSOP since 2005 (when 5,619 players participated in the Main Event) and continues the downward attendance trend that started in 2011 as you can see by the historical statistics below:

1. 2006 WSOP — 8,773 entrants

2. 2010 WSOP — 7,319 entrants

3. 2011 WSOP — 6,865 entrants

4. 2008 WSOP — 6,844 entrants

5. 2012 WSOP – 6,598 entrants

6. 2009 WSOP — 6,494 entrants

7. 2007 WSOP — 6,358 entrants

8. 2013 WSOP – 6,352 entrants

9. 2005 WSOP — 5,619 entrants

10. 2004 WSOP — 2,576 entrants

11. 2003 WSOP — 839 entrants

Still, even with a decrease in overall attendance, the final prize-pool of the 2013 WSOP Main Event nearly reached $60 million, and the winner of the tournament will walk away with a very respectable $8.3 million, with seven instant millionaires being created at the final table.

There is still a long way to go before anyone actually makes the final table, which will not be set until this coming Monday. But in the meantime we still have the money-bubble to contend with, along with the developing storylines as several big name players have vaulted to the top of the leader-board after two full days of play.

Leading the way into Day 3 is longtime Ultimate Bet sponsored Pro Mark “Poker Ho” Kroon, who is the only player to bag-up over 500,000 chips after two days of play, but a look just a little farther down the leader-board shows some really big names right in the chase pack, including William Reynolds and Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi. Other players just outside the Top 10 are Vladimir Geshkenbein, Rupert Elder, Jean Robert Bellande, Christian Harder, 2012 October Niner Steve Gee, 2001 WSOP Champion Carlos Mortensen, and 2012 WSOP Champion Greg Merson.

Here is a look at the *unofficial* Top 10 chip counts heading into Day 3:

1. Mark Kroon — 507,300

2. Victor Figueroa — 460,600

3. Dirk Vanluijk — 435,000

4. Nick Schwarmann — 413,600
