On Memorial Day the first open-bracelet event at the 2012 World Series of Poker got underway, not to mention the first winner of the 2012 WSOP was crowned in the Casino Employee tournament. But perhaps the most interesting story of the day came via Twitter, where John Kim called out a fellow player for misrepresenting his bustout hand.

You say QQ, I say A6

Lock Poker pro Casey Jarzabek posted the fairly routine Tweet on Monday, describing the hand that did him in during Event #2 of the 2012 WSOP, “Qq into aa at least it wasn’t a bad beet. Just to short in these not to get qq in the middle. Pool day #tpedge”. However, there was perhaps a bit of misreporting on the part of Casey, considering poker pro John Kim was sitting at his table and posted the following retort to Jarzabek’s claim of running QQ into AA.

Jarzabek later clarified his earlier Tweet, stating:

So, the 2012 WSOP is officially underway and we already have our first controversy!

Event #2 draws about 2,000 players

Last year the first $1,500 NLHE event didn’t take place until tournament #18, but this year a $1,500 NLHE tournament kicked-off the open-events. Unfortunately, the attendance was night and day compared to last year’s first $1,500 NLHE event, which drew over 3,000 entrants. This year the entry-list managed to squeak past the 2,000 mark, topping off at 2,101.

The total prize-pool for the tournament will be $2,836,350 with first place receiving over $500k and the coveted gold bracelet, $517,725 to be precise. A total of 216 players will make the money in the event, with a min-cash worth $2,893.

Hopefully the decrease in attendance has more to do with the placement of the event at the beginning of the WSOP schedule (on Memorial Day to boot) and is not an omen of what is to come for the 2012 running of the WSOP.

Chiab Saechao wins $500 Casino Employee tournament

The first WSOP bracelet was handed out on Monday and the winner was Chiab “Chip” Saechao, who defeated Patricia Baker for the title –Baker almost got the ladies off to a great 2012 WSOP start!

Saecho entered the second day of the tournament as the chip leader, and although he didn’t go wire-to-wire played flawlessly throughout, making the final table and then eventually winning the tournament. Here is a look at the final table payouts from the event:

5. Nicolas Vaca-Rondon — $15,359
