WSOP Notebook: Trickett assaulted and Eastgate falls short

The 2012 World Series of Poker is rolling along towards the Main Event –which kicks-off this Saturday—with the poker pros dominating the first half of the WSOP, and a slew of first-time bracelet winners and the Big One for One Drop tournament dominating the second half of the 2012 WSOP. But yesterday saw two very different stories steal the headlines at the WSOP, as 2008 WSOP Main Event Champion Peter Eastgate went for his second WSOP bracelet, and recent One Drop runner-up Sam Trickett saw his celebration come to a screeching halt at the hands of a group of wannabe tough guys.

Sam Trickett attacked while celebrating One Drop score

The celebration was going strong for Sam Trickett after pocketing a cool $10 million for his runner-up finish in the historic Big One for One Drop tournament, until a group of six miscreants/cowards/thugs decided to jump the UK poker pro, leaving him beaten and his girlfriend spit upon.

Was having a great day until 6 guys did this to me.Seriously Wtf? Couldn’t be more angry… #cowards http://twitter.com/Samtrickett1/status/220698214632919040/photo/1

Is this what happens if ur successful? literally beat the shit out of me and spat in @NatashaSandhu face all over nothing…

Trickett’s girlfriend stated on her Twitter that it wasn’t a mugging, and was over “nothing”, she also said both her and Sam are doing fine.

2008 WSOP Champion Peter Eastgate finishes 4th

Peter Eastgate has been a bit of an enigma in the poker world since winning the World Series of Poker Main Event back in 2008. Eastgate has shown some major promise and is considered one of the better young players in the game, but he has also retired from the game at one point, faced a gambling addiction, and turned a lot of heads when he sold his 2008 WSOP Main Event bracelet on EBay.

Now it appears Eastgate (all of 26 these days) is back and ready to play poker, just missing out on his second career WSOP bracelet. Eastgate finished 4th in the latest $1,500 No Limit Holdem tournament at the 2012 WSOP, pocketing a very impressive $209,111 in the process.

Here is a look at the final table payouts from Event #56, a $1,500 NLHE tournament:

1. Tomas Junek – $661,022

2. David Borg – $410,517

3. Donald Vogel – $289,530

4. Peter Eastgate – $209,111

5. Eliyahu Levy – $152,867

6. Andrew Taylor – $113,092

7. Steven Goldberg – $84,649

8. Tomas Trampota – $64,101

9. Bassel Moussa – $49,105
