Barcelona, Spain – In a stunning display of skill and resilience, Norway’s Kayhan Mokri has once again claimed the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Super High Roller title, earning €1,372,420 in a thrilling finale that solidifies his standing as one of poker’s brightest stars.

The €100K buy-in event drew 41 of the world’s top players, each seeking glory in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the poker calendar. Among the illustrious field were names like Patrik Antonius, fresh off a massive win at EPT Monte-Carlo, and Santhosh Suvarna, the reigning WSOP Super High Roller champion. However, it was Mokri who outlasted them all, repeating his 2023 victory and proving that lightning can indeed strike twice.

A Week to Remember

Mokri’s victory in Barcelona marks the pinnacle of an extraordinary week that saw the Norwegian win a €20K event for €259,646 just days before his Super High Roller triumph. This follows a series of deep runs, including a final table at the Super High Roller Bowl Series in Cyprus and another at the €50K EPT High Roller in Monte-Carlo.

The Road to Victory

The final day of play began with six elite contenders. However, it was Mokri who emerged as the dominant force, overcoming a challenging field that included poker legends and rising stars alike. Patrik Antonius was the first casualty of the final table, his ace-king falling to Jesse Lonis’ pocket sevens, earning the Finnish superstar €278,400.

Santhosh Suvarna followed suit, his ace-queen unable to crack Mokri’s pocket nines. The pocket pair held, sending Suvarna to the rail with €358,000 for his efforts.

Jesse Lonis was next to go, his ace-jack falling victim to Seth Davies’ queen-jack after a brutal flop. Despite entering the final table with a solid stack, Lonis’ fourth-place finish earned him €457,400.

With only three players left, Mokri began to seize control, his pocket eights proving pivotal in back-to-back hands that saw both Sean Winter and Seth Davies’ tournament lives hanging by a thread. Winter’s ace-nine couldn’t find any help against Mokri’s snowmen, and he was eventually eliminated in third place for €616,600.

A Heads-Up Showdown and a Dramatic Finish

The heads-up battle between Mokri and Seth Davies was short but dramatic. On just the second hand, Davies appeared poised for a double-up after flopping top two pair, but Mokri’s gutsy bluff transformed into a full house on the turn. The stacks went in, and the river brought no salvation for Davies, who had to settle for a well-earned €895,000.

Mokri, now a back-to-back EPT Barcelona Super High Roller champion, humbly attributed his success to a combination of “luck and a little skill” in his post-victory interview. The €1,372,420 prize boosts his career earnings significantly, moving him into second place on Norway’s all-time money list, just behind former WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad.
