Last week Rupert Elder became the latest winner on the European Poker Tour when he won the EPT San Remo Main Event, and with it a whopping €930,000. But who is Rupert Elder I hear you ask? Well for starters he is British, and he is the fourth British winner on the EPT this season. He follows on from Toby Lewis, David Vamplew and Robert Romanello, but while you may of heard of those names I doubt many of you will have heard of Elder. He is 24 years old and studied at Warwick University, in the hope of becoming a trader on the stock markets or a computer programmer. He started playing poker around seven years ago, but after finishing at University he decided to take the plunge and go pro. By his own admissions when he first started he was terrible, but after a

few years he soon became a regular winner online. Last year he broke through on the live poker scene with numerous success, and earlier this year he won £8,000 in Germany, but all that has

been put into the shade by his achievements over the past week in San Remo. Speaking to the Daily Mail Online newspaper he had the following to say regarding the life changing sum of money he has recently won. “Going into San Remo, I thought I had as much of a chance as I did in previous events. To win the tournament just felt awesome, especially since it was a larger than normal field, but I didn’t go too wild when I took down the cash, I just went for a few beers and a barbecue with lots of friends.” He went on to add, “There are lots of great things about being a poker pro, the freedom, travelling the world, making good money, but it has its downsides too. Having to turn up at 12pm every day and play until late, always being on the road and losing lots of money from time to time. I’ve had big wins in online games, taking down £6,000 in one day, but there have been days when I’ve lost £2,000.’ You would think that a 24 year old young man with all that money in his bank account would go and splash out on a new car or expensive gifts for the family, but not Rupert. He celebrated in style by treating himself to a new £75 hooded top! Just remember the name of Rupert Elder he is sure to be around for many years to come.
