In what is turning out to be an international crime story, according to the AP, the Berlin Police are reporting that a 21 year-old suspect in the armed robbery of an EPT poker tournament at the Hyatt Grand in Berlin, on March 6th, has turned himself in to local authorities.

A spokesman for the Berlin Police said the suspect surrendered to the local prosecutor’s office but is refusing to provide information on the remaining accomplices –who remain at large—or on the whereabouts of the estimated $330,000 in stolen prize-money.

The reasoning behind turning himself in is unclear at this point, but if the German legal system is anything like the US legal system, his cooperation with the ongoing investigation should result in a much shorter prison sentence. This is the most puzzling aspect of his refusal to cooperate thus far; why bother turning yourself in if you are going to get the same sentence?

Police officials are planning on releasing more information on Wednesday concerning the suspect.
