Poker News BoyWhile we are in the grips of One Drop mania and the stunning news that Ray Bitar has turned himself in to US authorities, there has been plenty of other news coming out of the poker world, and in this column I’ll take a look at some of the stories that have been pushed to the backburner over the past week.

John Campos Sentenced

One of the men indicted on Black Friday, banker John Campos, was sentenced last week in New York City, and after pleading down to just a single misdemeanor offense was given a three-month sentence for his role in facilitating transactions between online poker sites and US banks.

Nevada looking for online poker partners

The Las Vegas Review-Journal recently ran a story detailing how the sparsely populated state of Nevada was considering partnering with other states to offer legalized online poker. Nevada was the first state to pass online poker legislation, but with a small population may find it difficult to attract enough players to make their online poker model workable. Delaware approves online poker

One possible partner looks to be the state of Delaware, which recently became just the second state to approve online poker legislation. The Delaware law allows current gaming houses in the state to offer online gaming including poker on an intrastate basis, but does allow for interstate online gaming in the future.

Ultimate Poker launches first promotion

One of the companies seeking a Nevada online gaming license is Ultimate Poker, which sent out the following press release regarding their first major promotion, a joint venture between Ultimate Poker and their sister company the Ultimate Fighting Championship:

LAS VEGAS (July 2, 2012) – Ultimate Poker ( kicks off its sponsorship of the UFC with the launch of a free ‘Belt the Champ’ online poker tournament now through July 22.

The grand prize winner of the ‘Belt the Champ’ tournament will travel to Las Vegas this September to experience VIP treatment at UFC 151 and place the UFC Light Heavyweight belt on the victor of the Jon “Bones” Jones / Dan Henderson championship fight. To receive an invitation to the tournament, poker and UFC fans alike are encouraged to visit the Ultimate Poker Facebook application, click on the “Tournament” or “Sit n Go” tab to register. “We are happy to be in business with Ultimate Poker and this is undoubtedly the coolest prize we have ever given away,” remarked UFC President Dana White.

Ultimate Gaming CEO Tobin Prior had this to say about the newly cemented relationship: “We’re extremely thrilled to be the official poker partner of the UFC. We’re all fight fans and poker players and feel like there’s a huge overlap in those two worlds. It really feels like a perfect match.”
