Stars shine during the PokerStars WCOOP

The fact that most of the US online poker community has been forced to sit out the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) hasn’t hindered some of the biggest names in online poker from flourishing in the 2-day old tournament series.

After Ashley “DYBYBX” Mason triumphed over a star-studded field in the 410k High-Roller tournament on Day 1 of the WCOOP, it was Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis who came out victorious on Day 2 of the WCOOP, besting yet another star-studded field, this time in the $500k guaranteed $200 rebuy tournament.

The tournament more than doubled the guaranteed prize-pool set by PokerStars, topping out at $1,094,600. Karamalikis had to deal with a number of well-known players in the 1,589 player field, and when the final table began Karamalikis still had 2011 November Niner Martin Staszko and tournament specialist Jonathan Jaffe to deal with.

Marcin Horecki finished the tournament in 27th place (good for nearly $5k), which is notable because he was part of a 6-handed deal in the previous WCOOP tournament, Event #5, a $300 NLHE Shootout, where he pocketed $28,000.

Here is a look at the final table payouts for Event #6 of the 2011 WCOOP:

  1. Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis — $179,569.13
  2. Medmar — $131,352
