Tuesday marked the 77th birthday for Doyle Brunson, who is perhaps poker’s best-known player, and one of the most successful poker players in the history of the game. One of the most respected and liked players in the game, there was no shortage of birthday wishes for the Godfather of Poker.

As expected the Tweets and Facebook messages came fast and furiously on Tuesday with Brunson chiming in with a Tweet of his own: “Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I can’t keep up with the happy birthdays”. Even at 77 the man known as Texas Dolly has managed to master social networking!

Brunson has been successful in nearly every aspect of the poker world, from being one of the top players in the game, to penning Super System (widely considered the poker bible), to lending his name to the online poker room Doyles Room. Brunson is one of the few poker players in history who has managed to continue his successful career well past retirement age: So here is to Doyle Brunson, proof that you don’t need to be a 21 year-old Internet hot-shot to be a successful poker player.
