The 500,000 word autobiography will be released in 3 volumes 100 years after the man who is arguably the greatest American author of all-time passed away. This 100 year waiting period was expressly stated in Twain’s will –which has many people eagerly anticipating the memoirs which must be full of some juicy topics and controversial opinions.

In his life, Twain was very outspoken on topics from religion to poker and women’s rights to emancipation, but his wit and poetic prose kept his opinions from coming under major fire.

The most notable poker writings by Twain can be found in Life on the Mississippi, where he penned the famous quote: “The upper class knows very little about [poker]. Now and then you find ambassadors who have a sort of general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergyman, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a ‘flush.’ It is enough to make one ashamed of one’s species,”.
