Prahlad Friedman outlasts ‘November Nine’ member Kevin Schaff
Kevin Schaffel, riding a wave of success after making the WSOP Main Event final table, went into yesterday’s WPT Legends of Poker final table with a commanding chip lead. That said Schaffel knew he had his work cut out for him at a final table that featured top poker pros “Toto” Leonidas and Prahlad Friedman; both of whom have won WSOP bracelets.
In the end it was Friedman who took home the WPT crown (his first) after defeating Schaffel in a heads-up battle (Leonidas finished in 4th place). Friedman will be taking home just over $1,000,000 for the win (a whopping 37% of the prize pool!) while Schaffel will be adding $470,000 to his bank account.
Schaffel’s performance should give him plenty of confidence heading into November’s WSOP final table, and will likely help him land a major sponsorship regardless of where he finishes in November. The 51 year-old former small business owner, is likely to have an extremely lucrative poker career.
Fellow ‘November Nine’ member Steve Begleiter also made a deep run in the Legends of Poker tournament, and held the chip lead at the end of Day 1, Day 2 of the event, before being eliminated in 9th place.
