WSOP $10k Pot Limit Holdem Championship underway
One of the most discussed statistics prior to the 2011 WSOP kicking-off was the size of the fields that would take part in the different events, with many people under the impression that the higher buy-in non-NLHE events would suffer the most from Black Friday. So far this has not been the case at the WSOP as attendance has not only been comparable to the last few years, but in most cases has been up!
Even the $10k Pot Limit Holdem Championship that got underway yesterday was able to attract a solid field of 249 entrants, just 19 fewer than last year. Basically the attendance drop can be accounted for by simply checking off the poker superstars who are apparently skipping the 2011 WSOP like Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and Chris Ferguson to name a few.
At the end of the day, 129 of the original field of 249 players made it through to Day 2 of the event. The remaining players are still a long way from cashing as only 27 players will make the money in the tournament, with the winner pocketing $573,456 plus the coveted WSOP bracelet.
Here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts heading into Day 2:
1. Nicolas Levi – 137,000
2. John Dwyer – 130,000
3. McLean Karr – 125,500
4. Darren Kramer -125,100
5. Martins Adeniya – 124,800
6. Brandon Adams – 114,000
7. Steve O’Dwyer – 112,200
8. Sam Stein – 111,000
9. Matt Marafioti -110,700
10. Justin Bonomo – 109,000
