Broadcast giant ESPN and Poker Central will be partnering for the second time to air poker action at the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP)

After a successful partnership last year, where ESPN aired the 2017 WSOP Main Event for the first time, the channel has announced that they are increasing their hours of live coverage this season to include both the WSOP 2018 Main Event and the Big One for One Drop event.

ESPN Increases WSOP Coverage

According to JR McCabe, chief digital officer of Poker Central, ESPN’s viewership during last year’s WSOP Main Event broadcast was very positive and this made it an easy decision for them to double down on the live coverage of this year’s WSOP season. The partnership of ESPN and Poker Central will bring at least 40 hours of live WSOP coverage, plus more than 130 hours of originally produced episodes.

In a statement, Ty Stewart, executive director of the WSOP said “We’re ecstatic that ESPN and Poker Central continue to raise the bar and deliver more live poker content to audiences across the globe. Fans today demand immediacy and wall-to-wall coverage and this year’s offering delivers on that in spades.”

The WSOP worked out a deal in 2017 with ESPN and Poker Central which saw them airing the WSOP Main Event in a live format with a slight delay. ESPN began airing the event live while Poker Central delivered supplemental coverage through its digital platform Poker GO.

Ways To Watch The 2018 WSOP

The same format will also be used for the 2018 edition with Poker Central live streaming the whole tournament through Poker GO. Poker enthusiasts who cannot make it to the WSOP but would like to be a part of the poker action can do so by subscribing to Poker GO for as low as $10 per month or at a discounted price of $99 per year.

Those who will be tuning in via television can do so via ESPN, who has released a preliminary broadcast schedule from July 2 to July 21. All 10 days of the WSOP 2018 Main Event will be aired on ESPN2 from July 2 to July 14, while the WSOP One for One Drop will have four broadcast dates: live telecasts on July 16 and July 17, and tape replays on July 17 and July 21.

The broadcast schedule will be aired on a 30-minute delay and may vary depending on the outcomes of the tables.

The WSOP is the world’s richest and oldest running poker tournament and will once again take place this year at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino from May 29 through July 17. This year’s WSOP will bring a total of 78 events, including nine new events and a first-time online event. The $365 buy-in gold-ring digital event will be played online at WSOP.com and will take place on February 27.

Apart from the new digital event, some of the newer events at the tournament are the $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold’em, which will replace the old $10,000 Tag Team event and the $1,500 Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha, which will replace the old $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em.
