On November 10th Betfair announced it had finished its search for the company’s next CEO, and the group has decided on Breon Corcoran. Corcoran, the former Paddy Power COO and long-time board member is considered one of the rising stars in the industry, and at just 40 years-old could spend many years with Betfair. Corcoran will begin his tenure at Betfair on August 1, 2012 when he will take over for current Betfair CEO David Yu.

Betfair’s Chairman, Edward Wray, stated the following: “We have conducted a very thorough international search process over recent months and I am delighted that Breon will be Betfair’s new CEO.”

Corcoran was equally enthusiastic about his new role at Betfair, saying: “Betfair’s unique technology provides the company with a fantastic position in the online gaming industry and I believe it has a bright future ahead of it. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to lead the company and look forward to working closely with the Betfair team to grow the business further.”

In other Betfair Poker news, the site announced earlier this week that they had signed long-time poker pro Hans Martin Vogl to represent the site. The German poker pro began his gambling career as a sports-bettor but turned to poker during the boom in the mid-2000’s. Among his career accomplishments is a 2007 final table appearance at the Aussie Millions where he finished in 5th place.

Global poker manager at Betfair, Asko Heiskanen, had this to say regarding the signing of Vogl, “We are always looking for great players who can represent Betfair. Hans has demonstrated time and time again that he is a player of extraordinary skills. We believe there’s much more to come from him and we are delighted he has joined Team Betfair. ”

Vogl summed up his new sponsorship with Betfair in the following way, “With Betfair I have gone back to my roots. Apart from the attractive poker promotions and great staff at Betfair, I appreciate the size, integrity and expertise of one of the largest online gambling companies in the world. I’m looking forward to a successful partnership.”

Betfair is currently a part of the OnGame Poker Network, currently the fifth ranked poker site/network (just behind 888.com) according to PokerScout.com. The entire network has been offered for sale after OnGame’s parent company bWin merged with Party Poker last year (making the OnGame Poker Network redundant). One OnGame skin, Tower Gaming, has jumped ship to the Cake Poker Network, but no reasons were stated.
