Caesars is the new bigwig in New Jersey Online Poker Market

After New Jersey was added to the existing multistate online poker network of Delaware and Nevada, they have altered the online poker industry in the Garden State for the one month they have been in. This has sent PokerStars NJ out of the top spot for the first time since April 2016, PokerStars’ full month in the market and this moved Caesars to the top of the monthly revenue charts for the first time in the nearly five year history of NJ online poker sites. This does not come as a surprise considering that Caesars is the sole operator in Delaware and Nevada. This makes them the sole beneficiary of interstate online poker.

Before New Jersey got into the Multi State Internet Gaming Association (MSIGA), the online poker industry was relatively stable. When it came to revenue, PokerStars was the market leader followed by Borgata who was the second site with Caesars following. This would not be the case any more after the launch of the interstate player pooling in the beginning of May. Caesars WSOP Nevada, WSOP NJ and 888Poker did better compared to Borgata.

This article about online poker sites will show the different revenue generated by these poker sites in the month of May. When you look at Caesars, you realize that their market share increased and this made their revenue increase from 35% to 44%. It is clear that WSOP and 888 were getting most of their players from Borgata. When it comes to PokerStars, their revenue in May and market share was at par with their recent numbers. Without doubt, it is evident that new Jersey online poker punters are seeing PartyPoker NJ and 888 platforms and rewards programs as relatively equal. This being the case, players will put emphasis on the overall traffic numbers when they are choosing between these sites.

When you look at this from another perspective, you realize that players prefer certain aspects of PokerStars to 888. PokerStars is clearly retaining their punters, as well as, revenue share even when they cannot compete with the traffic at 888.

We believe PartyPoker and 888 have to get worried. This is because the Party Poker network is on its way to irrelevancy due to this major shake up and PokerStars might get tot he first position after Pennsylvania become part of MSIGA.

With the WSOP going on in Nevada, it will be hard for one to draw conclusions from revenue reports in June and July. As we can see from numbers in May, it is clear that Caesars and PokerStars seem to be the two alphas who will fight for the supremacy in US online poker.
