$10k Stud Championship underway at 2011 WSOP

What happened to Seven-Card-Stud? The once popular poker format has been steadily declining over the last decade in terms of popularity, and at the 2011 World Series of Poker this was on full display as the $10k Seven-Card-Stud Championship drew an identical number of participants as the $10k No Limit 2-7 Championship –not widely considered to be a “popular” form of poker.

Of course, the $10k Stud Championship did draw the usual East Coast stud specialists, who along with the poker pros proficient in multiple disciplines made up the 126 players that entered the tournament.

At the end of play on Sunday 91 of the original 126 players remained in the hunt for the bracelet. Here are the top 10 chip-counts at the end of Day 1 of the Stud Championship:

1. Sebastien Sabic – 129,900

2. Alexander Kostritsyn – 105,600

3. Joe Cassidy -92,900

4. Chris Tryba – 90,400

5. Mike Sexton – 85,000

6. Scott Clements – 80,300

7. Chris Amaral – 79,700

8. Erick Lindgren – 74,000

9. Jennifer Harman – 69,600

10. Steve Zolotow – 66,000

Other big names still alive in the event include, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Chad Brown, John Racener, Eli Elezra, Richard Ashby, David Benyamine, Bertrand “ElkY” Grosspellier, Jason Mercier, Daniel Alaei, Frank Kasella, Scott Seiver, Sorel Mizzi, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Jeff Lisandro, Phil Laak, John Hennigan, Allen Bari, Tom Dwan, Humberto Brenes, Jerry Buss, John Juanda, Allen Kessler, Erik Seidel, Greg Raymer, Brian Hastings, and Ted Forrest.
