Despite a €1.3 million first-place prize, as well as being won by Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, the big story during the 2010 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event was the cheating scandal that was uncovered involving Ali Tekintamgac (who disputes these claims) that saw the former WPT champion disqualified from the final table.

The 2011 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event is now underway in Cannes, France, and after a 318 entrant Day 1a looks to be on pace to meet, or possibly beat, last year’s total prize-pool – more importantly the tournament went off without a hitch, and no fake bloggers/cameramen were to be seen on the tournament floor.

Among the big names at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes on Monday were 2010 PPT Champion Vanessa Selbst, Men “The Master” Nguyen (not usually known for playing in European poker tournaments), and 2011 WSOP Player of the Year contender Phil Hellmuth, who is gearing up for the WSOP Europe in an effort to overtake Ben Lamb in the WSOP POY standings.

At the end of Day 1a it was 2011 PCA final table member Anton Ionel who managed to secure the chip lead, bagging up nearly 180k chips. Vanessa Selbst’s title defense also got off to good start as the Team PoekrStars Pro managed to triple her starting stack by the end of the day.

A solid turnout on Day 1b will insure the tournament reaches its €4 million guarantee.
