$5k Mix-Max tourney enters heads-up play today
Another of the new events at the 2012 World Series of Poker is about to enter heads-up play (the first new event on the schedule was the PLO/NLHE Heads-Up tournament) as the $5k Mix-Max No Limit Holdem tournament is down to 32 players, actually 31 players thanks to a double bust-out to end the night.
The Mix-Max tournament is a new format in the poker world, which calls on players to play in full ring, short-handed, and heads-up NLHE games; as the tournament progresses (in the case of the WSOP on each day of the event) the format of the tournament changes. Day 1 of the $5k Mix-Max at the WSOP was played at 9-handed tables; Day 2 saw the field play 6-handed; and today’s finale will be played as a heads-up tournament.
Another wrinkle added by the WSOP for the event was the seeding of players based on their chip-counts, and with one player missing this means that chip-leader Warwick Mirzikinian secured a first-round bye, and is already guaranteed at least a 16th place finish!
Here is a look at the matchups for the final day of the event, including the players’ chip-counts and seeding:
