david gorr wins aussie millionsThe current poker world is seemingly dominated by baby-faced 20-somethings, but at the 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event 71 year-old David Gorr –a Melbourne resident—proved that experience still matters, as he became the oldest player to ever win the tournament.

Gorr, a longtime poker player who has had good results in local Australian poker tournaments, entered the final table to little fanfare considering two of poker’s best players were seated at amongst the final eight players, Full Tilt Poker’s Patrik Antonius and Doyles Room’s Chris Moorman, not to mention the talkative chip-leader Randy Dorfman. Gorr couldn’t even count on the backing of the hometown fans as two other Aussies also made the elite 8 of the tournament. However, after a fast start the entire table was chasing the septuagenarian grandfather, and when the tournament reached heads-up play only Britain’s James Keys had a chance to end Gorr’s run.

Keys performed admirably, considering he entered heads-up play at a 5-to-1 chip disadvantage, and at one point he had Gorr on the ropes only to see Gorr comeback, reclaim the chip-lead, and eventually win the tournament.

Here is a look at how the final table played out:

  1. David Gorr — $2,000,000
  2. James Keys — $1,035,000
  3. Jeff Rossiter — $700,000
  4. Michael Ryan — $450,000
  5. Randy Dorfman – $325,000
  6. Samad Razavi — $225,000
  7. Chris Moorman — $175,000
  8. Patrik Antonius — $130,000
