Barry Shulman outlasts Daniel Negreanu to win the World Series of
After a long, back-and-forth heads-up battle, Cardplayer owner Barry Shulman came away victorious at the WSOPE Main Event. The victory marks Shulman’s second WSOP title, the first coming in 2001 when he captured the $1,500 7-Card-Stud hi/lo bracelet.
Negreanu battled all day long, and had a few chances to win the tournament: Most notably when he and Shulman were both all-in on the flop; Negreanu holding pocket Aces for an over-pair, Shulman with the nut-flush-draw. A few hands later it was Shulman who had the pocket Aces, and Negreanu had unfortunately flopped top-pair.
The 2nd place finish did propel Negreanu into the top spot on the all-time money list: The honor will likely be short-lived as Phil Ivey is nipping on his heels going into the WSOP Final Table this November.
Shulman’s son, Jeff, is also a member of the WSOP Final Table, and will have his work cut out for him if he wants to one-up ‘Pops’!
